Ellen Woodsbie

Project Manager & Senior Designer

Ellen is passionate about designing environments that facilitate community interaction among a diversity of people and allow for a wide range of experiences. She believes the experience of the user greatly depends on an architecture with strong design principles and an aesthetic concept that is well unified with the activity and movement within a space. At FI, she relishes bringing the vision gleaned from many meetings with teachers, students, and administrators into architectural reality. Ellen works at all stages of the design process, from discovery and vision planning, to design development and management, to construction documents.

Ellen designs through sketching, drafting, and 3D modeling. While earning her Masters in Architecture at RISD (Rhode Island School of Design), she gained valuable skills in hand drawing and modeling, as well as digital design methods. She is proficient in the most current design technology including Revit (BIM software), prototyping, AutoCAD, Rhino, and Adobe Creative Suite.

Prior to entering the architectural field, Ellen earned both a Bachelor of Arts in Art History and a Bachelor of Music in Oboe Performance from Lawrence University. She worked briefly as a freelance musician and graphic designer before entering the Rhode Island School of Design and earning her Masters in Architecture. When she is not in the studio, Ellen enjoys working on personal creative projects and spending time with her husband and two young boys.
